Depending on his age, try treating him with some respect for starters. How does your husband feel about your obvious jealousy of the child?

First of all, a step mom is not a mom - and spanking someone elses kid is NEVER okay. Now for the question: you shouldn't be doing anything.

You need to think about this from his side. he is a child, who has experienced a lose he does not have the emotional maturity to deal with, and as much as you try to help, you are a constant reminder that his mommy is gone. First, you need to talk to his dad. This needs to be in his father's hands. The boy should not be allowed to mistreat you, but until he has had time to deal with his mother's death (this can take years) you should not make any attempts to be the one to discipline him. Just love him unconditional, and leave the rest to his father.

Another thing you should suggest to your spouse is getting his son into some sort of councilling program, either on his own or with his dad, to help him learn how to deal with what he is going through.

First of all, your husband should be dealing with this. This child is hurting, his mother is dead and his stepmother doesn't like him, you try living like that. You guys need to get into counseling as a family and your stepson should be in grief counseling separately. A little compassion on your part is in order here; imagine losing your mom at such an early age, how would you feel?

if he is young still try to talk to him like the child that he is. it may be really hard for him to have dealt with theloss of his mother if he knew her before she passed and even harder for him to deal with losing his father to you now too. But I guess it all depends on how long ago his mother died and how long you have been a part of the family. Maybe his dad could talk to him about respecting you. or maybe heneeds counceling

It'll take a lot of love from you and he has to learn to trust you.
If that doesn't work , let your husband take over. Has his grandparents been raising him then he is spoiled. Tell your husband to bust his but remember the saying, "Spare The Rod, Spoil the child.

How old is this kid? If under 16, spanking does a really good job of showing who is boss.
You might have to get your hubby to spank also, especially if the kid is overly large or is in the 16-18 yo range.

you might think it hard but i've been through this before except it was my step brother. just tell him I am in charge of you now and you need to respect me. If he cries he'll get over it one day. Just let him no that his mom would be happy if he listened to you. i hope this helped

It sounds like you're treating him like a brat. This seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me.

tell him, I'm not trying to replace your mom, I'd like to be your friend, if you can't handle that your at least going to respect me as the adult of this house and follow my rules until you move out..then make an "L" with your fingers and put it to your forehead 2 MORE ON THE SCOREBOARD

He's not the brat, you are. He's a little boy who lost his mother, and all he needs is love, attention and patience. You sound like a real creep. Go away.
