I am far from knowing India well enough to judge how "ready for the new millennium" Indian healthcare really is.
But I know that the larger and richer cities in India already have hospitals, and medical care, that are better than what can be found in many parts of Europe, especially for the lower or middle classes.
One pretty clear sign of this is, that quite a lot of British (British medical care is probably the worst in the EU, by far) people actually fly to India to have operations performed on them there. If they stayed in the UK, maybe they'd have to wait several years, risking to die before the operation happens. Or maybe they'd be poorly treated, in a poorly run hospital, and develop various problems.
As India continues to develop, partly thanks to its great IT engineers, and becomes richer, many hospitals will be built and/or upgraded, and this is bound to lead to further improvements in the quality of medical care.

INDIA IS STILL FAR AWAY GIVE IT ANOTHER 25/30 YEARS TO BE AT PAR WITH UNITED STATES. TO BEGIN WITH THE MANDATE SHOULD BE GOVERNMENT PROMPTED. THERE SHOULD BE COMPULSARY SOCIAL SECURITY, THINGS SUCH AS DISCIPLINE IN THE FEILDS OF INSURANCE SHOULD BE HONEST. FINALLY NO NONSENSE HEALTH COVERAGE WHICH DOES NOT REQUIRE THAT YOU PAY YOUR BILLS AND THEN SEEK COMPENSATION FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DOCTORS SHOULD BE ABLE TO TRACE YOUR DATA JUST BY LOOKING UP THE PC TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE BEING COVERED, IF YOU ARE COVERED, AND CHARGE ALL YOUR BILLS TO THAT AGENCY. BUT IF YOU ARE NOT COVERED, THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO CHARGE YOU.
