No they are against gay marriage because it degrades what marriage is all about which is...communion between a man and a woman with the purpose of having children and raising a family. Marriage between gay people cannot and does not fulfill this purpose. It is between woman and woman or man and man and they cannot have children so what is the purpose of them being married other than for sexual benefits which they can have without marriage, and tax benefits which is solely for married couples because they actually have families and need the money to support their family.

Wow - there must be a hell of a lot more Republicans than I thought....
Gay marriage losing support, poll finds
Shift follows N.J. Supreme Court ruling

MOUNT LAUREL — Support for banning gay marriage in New Jersey grew in the days after the state Supreme Court ruled that gay couples should have the same rights as married heterosexuals, according to a poll released Thursday.
A little more than half the Rutgers-Eagleton poll's 809 respondents favored changing the state constitution so that gay marriages would be banned.
In June, a poll showed the opposite, with a little more than half opposing such a constitutional amendment.
The state Supreme Court last week ruled that New Jersey's Legislature had six months to extend to gay couples the same protections that heterosexual couples get when they are married. But the court said the lawmakers do not have to call it marriage.
Some lawmakers reacted to the ruling by calling for a constitutional ban on gay marriage. Leaders in the Legislature and the governor have said they would not favor such a move.
Instead, lawmakers plan in the next months to debate what to call thenuptials.
Several key lawmakers have already said that they will support civil unions — which offer the rights of marriage, but not the title. Some, cheered on by the gay-rights group Garden State Equality, are calling for the name "marriage."
Thursday's survey shows those activists are in for an uphill battle.
In the poll, about 3 in 10 adults surveyed wanted to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry, while 4 in 10 wanted civil unions. Among likely voters, there was even more support for civil unions and less for gay marriage.
One-sixth of the 809 New Jersey adults queried in the poll said lawmakers should refuse to follow the court's ruling.
Gay marriage had more support in New Jersey in an Eagleton poll conducted in June. In that poll, 50 percent of respondents said gay marriage should be allowed and 65 percent supported civil unions. In the June poll, unlike the latest one, respondents could voice support for both and were not asked to choose between the measures.

Republican are against gay marriage because it sparks something in a segment of the voting population that will put all other issues aside and only vote to continue to discriminate against gays and lesbians. And they do this in very very large numbers. It is not truly what they believe or why do they have some many gay staff members in very high positions. It is simply an issue that has the power to keeps them in office.

No. Most Republicans have settled down and are working honest jobs and loving their families. Most Republicans and conservatives just plain believe that Gay marriage is morally wrong.

Gee, Red Rose, do I have to get a divorce after 37 years of marriage? I can't have kids since going through menopause. It would be hard to leave my husband after all these wonderful years together, but, gee, if our marriage is not really vaid anymore, I suppose I'll have to find someplace else to live... And you won't let me marry anyone else either, so I guess I'm just doomed to loneliness and misery for the rest of my life.
Thanks a lot, Red Rose for setting me straight...I sure wouldn't want to do anything sinful like continuing to have a joyful sex life with my husband.
OMG, this is going to get ugly - who gets custody of the cat!?

I'm not sure I understand what red rose is saying. I am unable to have children-does that mean I can't or shouldn't get married either? Does the government have the right to tell me because I can't produce children that I have no right to get married? I find that a little hard to believe.
I think republicans are against gay marriage because they can't choose between all the hot, young, athletic pages swarming around them. You can't really expect them to pick just one can you? It is a buffet of buff boys just waiting to be preyed upon by 50 year old conservatives. But we should trust their morals and intelligence enough to decide who should or shouldn't get married. Pedophiles know what's best for our country don't they? Please!

I'm an independent that has been voting Republican for decades and I can't speak for all Republicans but I can for myself. I'm against gay marriage because the actual homosexual sex act is an abomination. Why are you communislamic fascists FOR it? Do you all want to legalize your homosexual acts?
