Don't be insulted, Mark D, he didn't mean you were silly, he meant that people thinking gay marriage is somehow a threat to them is silly.
It is a classic wedge issue: You con millions of people in to thinking that something is a threat, then they get riled up and go vote, thinking that they are helping to turn back the "threat".
The con man, Tony Perkins, on Hardball yesterday actually said that he thought the Republicans would hold power in both the Senate and the House because of gay marriage and John Kerry. Two issues that don't affect anyone's life, except positively affecting gay couples if they are allowed legal rights in regard to their partner. Mike Barnacle's response was classic. He said that he finds it real hard to believe that an individual would walk in to a voting booth and decide that gay marriage or civil unions would be somehow more of threat than say the Iraq war, and if they did they would be in need of serious, serious therapy.
Oh, did I call Tony Perkins a con man? I meant to say head of the Family Research Council.
If you vote based on gay marriage or John Kerry, then guess what: You've been conned.

I think it was Lincoln who said you can't fool all of the people all of the time, but Karl Rove is trying.
Gay marriage is important to the people involved and to those who feel their pain in being denied the rights that non-gay people take for granted. But it's not THE most important issue in this election.
The war in Iraq is (or should be) important to all of us. The rape of the environment by Dubya's rich friends is (or should be) important to all of us. The economy is (or should be) important to all of us. (Oh, yeah, I need to fill up the car Tuesday morning; gas prices will probably be back up on Wednesday.) Corruption in government costs all honest people money, whether we know it or not. Rove is trying to distract people from the issues that affect everyone so voters will focus on things that are really none of their business, like other people's love lives.

Don't worry, whatever your stance on gay marriage, that card has been played to death. I don't think most people are falling for the red herring this time, they've seen this act before. Most voters main concern right now is the war in Iraq, and the economy.

because taking comprehend something important would lose President Obama the election, and he's conventional with it. those who can't see the approach contained in the timing of this guy's unexpected turn-flop on gay marriage in basic terms opt for now to not see it. era.

the gay marriage issue(like the abortion issue) is tossed out at every election cycle in order to polarize everyone into one camp or the other....and they fall for it everytime.

good one , that is why we vote and are supposed to have free elections, my suggestion for this particular election is to write your vote in and hand to to the workers at the precinct and they will tally the votes call in the total and post the individual results at each precinct that way we know how our area voted and any questions can be proved quite easily.,And anyone who objects to this way obviously planned on cheating.

That is just one issue. It is not a pivitol issue that will sway too many votes. No one has been focusing on this topic lately
