Since she is your daughter and no someone elses give her something quiet like a Teddy bear made out of an old fur coat. my son is 29 and still treasures the one I made for him. p.s. no he is not gay lol

My youngest daughter is five ( I also have a 12 year old) and from my experience, anything that inspires the imagination is a good bet. Both my girls have loved to play dress up- they can pretend to be anything they want that way! They also have loved different kinds of art supplies. They'll still be playing with these things YEARS after the stuffed animals lose their charm.

Oh playhouses and the like are also good bets-- they also really get that imagination going!

Good luck shopping!

Children that young seem to be pretty easily delighted and from my own experience children seem to start to get zombie like after hours of opening presents and start to lose interest in everything. It seems like the best present would be one thing that she has really been asking for (ask her if she hasn't already told you) and then maybe something that you know she could use long term, like a little table and chairs set for her stuffed animals or something.
A large stuffed animal waiting by the tree is also extremely exciting when you're little.

You can visit http://www.purplehippoparties.com/aparisi and check out their collection of fluffables! There are all kinds of animals and dolls that she (with an adult's assistance) can stuff herself (VERY easy) for a gift that she's sure to treasure! I've bought a couple for my younger children and my oldest son carries his bear around constently when he's home.

Good luck!
