The leopard print trend came back in with the African awareness trend, about the same time that the reproduction Kente cloth trend came in. In days of old, The divine Kings of Benin were offered leopard skins from their greatest warrior hunters in order to seek aproval and to show prowess that they were a protector of the people. In these times everyone wants to show that they are kings and queens of their world so they wear the leopard print, and because the pattern is indisputably gorgeous. I'm glad the print is popular and fur is OUT.

If you look in most of the shops at the moment it's a mixed bag. We are seeing clothes set around the era's of the 50's, 60's & the 80's. Throughout the years leopard prints has always been around. In the 50's & 60's leopard prints was the height of fashion in coats, shoes, dresses & scarves. It went out of fashion in the 70's and for some reason it was classed as brassy hence Bet Lynch wearing her coat with her blonde hair. The Punk Rock era of the late 70's early 80's adapted it for themselves with bright colours such as pink and lime. Leopard print had a huge rivival in the 80's with once again dresses with shoulder pads, bags, belts and the stilletto winkle picker.
Due to the 90's and 2000's not really having their own grab on fashion designs. The biggest rivival at the moment is the 80's with footless tights, long tops and ballet pump style shoes. I have just sold three bags which I purchased in the 80's. One being leopard print and they sold for just over £100. I must of only paid £10 max for each bag. There's big money to be made from vintage clothing from the 80's.

Dolce & Gabanna lined their black with leopard print for Autumn/Winter this year - so I think they started the whole subtle print thing. Kate Moss wore leopard print ballet pumps to meet the nice men from Scotland Yard, but they were already in stores by then.
A lot of the deisgners are doing accessories with leopard print and a few have done more than that but mostly its been picked up by the high street who have (as ever) run away with it. I've got some v. cute kitten heels from New Look.

Rodney the sheep went on holiday to Africa, whilst on jeep safari, he was pointed out all the different types of animals that lived there by his tour guide.
So, Rodney the sheep got his pair of green binoculars and started to look around at the wilderness. Focusing and focusing, Rodney the sheep saw a cat approaching the jeep.
The cat had a strange and different coat.
'Hello, my names Leonard the leopard',
said the deep cat s voice.
Putting down his green binoculars.
'Is it ok to touch and take a closer look at your coat',
Rodney the sheep spoke quietly to the cat.
'Sure, take a look',
Replied Leonard the Leopard.
Rodney the sheep put his arm out and felt the cats fluffy textured coat... looking further he saw the black spotted detailing amongst a orange and yellow coloured background.
Inspired, Rodney the sheep got out his sketch book and drawed the coat with him in it. Rodney the sheep, booked the next plane home, and soon in his fashion studio, he sew and sew.
That month was London fashion week, he invited Leonard over to watch his latest collection, the crowd went 'ooo' and 'aaa'. The design was a triumph and ever since this story, Rodney and Leonard hit it off and now live in a los angeles mansion, and often have celebrate Christmas with celebrities like Elton john.
THE END

A Tory member wore a pair of leopard print shoes to a conference a few months back; that's the first time Victoria Beckham and I saw it.
Very nice though if not overdone, I have 2 pairs of shoes with the design, one pointed, one peep toe.

A lot of designers had it on the catwalk this year including John Galliano. I personally have a wonderful pair of leopard print shoes with a red bow only £20 from New Look - how fab! I think it can be overdone though - no full length coats please. Or mens' trousers a la Rod Stewart in the 70's
