Try asking questions, people love talking about themselves and it's a great way to break the ice, humor with come with time once you feel more at ease with social situations.

A Good question you have asked. There are many people like you who are , far want of this techno ,shy and do not talk in public.I would advise them as under -
1Read more books on Hummer and Wit quotable Quotes and some famous public speeches by famous leaders.
2.Try to copy them in a mirror and some of the quotes by heart
3.Try and use in friend Circles and see the reactions
4.Gradually you start giving speeches in public and become a leader.
Good Luck to you.

im also very shy around people i dont know very well. i get all tense and nervous and choked-up, not knowing what to say. but ive been getting better. u just have to stop trying to impress people (aka being too genuine) and just be yourself. stop caring what other people think so much. dont be rude, instead, just stand behind your opinions bc that's who you are! if ur a guy and ur talking to a girl, the second she thinks ur trying to impress her or "manipulate" her you will be written off. as for being funny, just look around at your surroundings, there are tons of funny things going on. for example, ur on a date and u see someone wearing an ugly outfit. just crack a joke and your date will probably laugh (if it's not a completely rude joke) and make a comment herself.

just be open and honest and don't be afraid. i myself am shy, but i know when to laugh and just be nice and talk to people and joke around. ask them questions about them first, and then they will probably ask the same of u, and it gets the ball rolling, and u may find u have things in common, and joke around, ppl like a sense of humor lol
i'm sure ur already friendly and funny, it's just shy ppl can't handle it well or w/e lol. just be yourself and that's all that matters, trust me. good luck!

Take a risk. Be yourself. Relax. The first and hardest step is jumping out of your comfort zone. Sometimes what helps me to be more confident is to actually try and picture what I would like to be like, then I become it.
