The new BattleStar Galactica series was supposed to have taken place 400 yrs AFTER the original...So, how come ALL the same characters are in it, names, and why change StarBuck to a chick, -not even a descendent. lol
See what i mean? if you gonna do that to a series, introduce NEW characters, or something original.
Make a series or movie to try and be original, not all just about the special effects, and actors/actresses names.
Hopes the Transformers movie won't be a let-down.

That's simple they probably ran out of ideas to come up with new characters so they just kept them, and about starbuck being a chick and not even deacendent well that's there idea of change see no one would have expected that there for it constitutes as a change so in there defence it is the same series just with a few twecks.

400 years?? Ive never heard that? I was under the impression that this series is a REMAKE! NOT a continuation! When the Cylons attacked this time it was 50! years after they first rebelled! NOT 400! The remake MORE realiztic! More drama and is NOT so much a comic book sci fi story but real drama that COULD happen today (other then space travel and stellar jumps and stuff like that). And the evolution of the Cylons is a VERY intelligent thing. Why shouldnt they evolve? The old ones was good! BUT the new ones are even better! It shows the diversity of their culture. YES CULTURE! So far there are three versions. The old METAL "tin cans", the ship Cylons (and yes there r differnt kinds of ships that SEEM to be individuals also) and the human looking ones! This gives them a WHOLE NEW EDGE! The old names made new is very interesting. Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer are NOW used as call sings just like our military pilots do. Remember TOP GUN? Iceman!!! LOL i especially LOVE how they took Apollo and made him REAL! THe not so special son who is loved by all! He HAS problems! Just like everyone else! and is MORE HUMAN that we can relate to! Adding Starbuck as a female changed that relationship! To the better i think! OVER ALL I LOVE THE NEW BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!!!!!!!

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong...
The new series is a remake set 40 years after the Cylon War. A few character names are the same, one actor (Richard Hatch) from the original is in the new one. The main overall story points are the same, but it is an entirely NEW show. Instead of focusing on the special effects and future technology the core of the series is drama and story. The old series was pretty much a cartoon. This is realistic, sometimes hard to watch intense material.
The characters are shown as flawed, emotional people. The story goes deep into their lives and personalities. We watch as they evolve.
PAY ATTENTION NEXT TIME!

This series is completely different to the original. And not just that it's much more professional. Granted some of the characters (Starbuck, Boomer and Adama only though i think) have the same name and in two cases a similar personality. However it is much more mature, professional and darker than the first series.
And most of it is different. The designs of the main ships are the same, a handful of names and the basic plot background plot (cylons eradicate humanity, survivors search for mythical lost colony) are the same. But this is surprisingly very little. The plots of the episodes themselves are completely different, the subplots numerous, the characters darker and more human and not the near-perfect characters common to 70s scifi.
Personally this is one of my favourite show on tv at the moment.

they wanted to tell a newer darker side of the cylon/colonial war, and decided it would be best if people could relate it to the 1970s/80s version
by using the same names and their ranks the viewers could understand who these characters were
i would like to know what is going on --- at the end of the last series everything seemed to be going ok for the colonials until literally the very last minute
when is the next series coming out???
but i do understand your fustration -
like in the transformers movie - would you be upset if optimus-prime turned out to be a female voiced robot ???
i know i would

The new BSG is a retelling and is far superior. Its much darker and incredibly dramatic. So much of the story surpasses the sci-fi aspect of the show. Give it a chance, you'll be hooked.
And as for Transformers, its going to be awful. Michael Bay is involved. Megatron isn't a gun, and Bumblebee isn't even a new Beetle!

The old Cylons were much better, but on the whole I've enjoyed the new series, as a different show.

I prefer the original battlestar. The new one is boring and practically line for line the same.
The Americans have to go and spoil a classic with stupid remakes.
Why can't they find something original for once.
