I took a quick look in the online auto parts catalog and the electric fuel pumps for the '96 and '97 Chevy 4.3L are completely different. The '97 fuel pump photo looks like it is in the gas tank and the '96 fuel pump looks like it is spliced into the fuel line. The '96 fuel pump is about 1/4 the cost which may be why you asked the question in the first place!

You have a couple of options.
You could call a salvage yard and ask.
You could call a Chevy/GMC dealer and ask the parts department.
You could try www.car-parts.com. Put in the truck you're trying to replace the fuel pump on and see what comes up.

As far as I can remember, they use the same fuel pump. The operating pressure is different at the injectors, but that is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator not the pump.
