My car makes a noise OCCASIONALLY when in REVERSE only. Sounds like a high pitched quieted horn (eeeeee). Its a honda accord and it makes the noise even if im not breaking or turning the wheel, going faster or slow, but not 100% of the time.

My brother says the sensor is just shot and that there is NO need to take it in for just that, but I don't want to cause more damages while I wait for my tune up appt. And I didn't want to take it in early cuz I was hoping to use my Bonus to pay for it in a month.

Can someone please tell me what they think this might be and if I need to take it in immediately?

Honda autos are hydraulically actuated gears on shafts, while most other autos use planetary gearsets. bieng a 2004 it should be just fine...it should sound like a whining noise. I have a 2006 Civic it does the same. I am a Hondajunkie.

You didn't specify mileage, but it does sound to me like you are facing transmission problems. It could be the shuttles and spiders inside are all varnished up so they aren't working properly. If the diagnosis is Take it to a good transmission shop and have them do a complete flush with a gasket/sealant safe solvent. If this in fact the problem it should clear up.
Before you do anything make sure you take your car to a good mechanic to have it diagnosed.

My guess is that you are starting to see some of the signs of wear on your transmission. What you can do is take the car in and get the transmission fluid drained and replaced. I'm sure that that won't be very expensive. Next, take the car around and see if you're getting the same sound. I'm sure it'll be fine and you'll be able to drive around in it until you get your money and you can get whatever you want done on it.

It is only noise. If you are concerned , take it to the shop. If not, wait until you break down. Life is good. Take it easy.
