Yahoo also offers a lot of other features that are not free (i.e. pay web hosting, Yahoo Store, Yahoo advertisement...etc.). When you go to the free web hosting pages, you will notice some advertisment on the side of the pages. When you go to the main Yahoo page, you will see some advertisments too. Advertisement is how Yahoo (and many other free web sites) makes money

Advertisements- notice the ads, the annoying pop-ups on different sites. Those websites pay Yahoo and other websites big money to have them on their pages. Just like TV. How do they pay those actors that big money? From the commercials.

you see all thoughs little advertisements? Thats mostly how,but Yahoo has a diverse system now from auctions to memberships..and ofcourse their dating services.
.all of which have fees...It's the American way LoL

advertisememnts, including the specifically targetted zonal ads.. but then there are some shady sites who collect and sell your email id to spammers and that gets one lots of revenue

They get money from sposors. Do you notice all of those ads? well those companies are the ones who pay yahoo to place ads on their website.

they get money from advertising. lots of companies advertise on yahoo and that's how they make their money. oh yeah they can also get donations from people and companies.
