Solution in words is very simple: 'To getup early, you have to sleep or go to bed early'. But the question is how to do that? Any medicine, what so ever, taken on regular basis for a longer periods, looses its utility or effectiveness and/or develops -ve or side effects. The only solution, what I have adopted, is 'GETUP EARLY'. If you start getuping early, then your body , will start asking you or feeling like that 'its time to sleep'. Som times you will like to sleep at 7 pm, 8pm and so on. In your case, try to getup at 5am or 5:30am. Can you do like that? If yes, then you will be able to sleep or feeling to sleep early within days.
best of luck.

I worked shifts for years. These are the things that help me to readjust to living live among the "normal":

Don't drink coffee, tea, or alcohol for the first week. Caffeine and alcohol will throw off your natural sleep rhythms.

Keep noise to a minimum when you are at home. You need to remain as relaxed as possible until you pass your adjustment period.

Do not accept telephone calls after 9:00 pm

Do not eat after 6:00 pm.

Make sure your bedroom is cool and free of distractions.

If you sleep with a television on, make sure the volume is extremely low. It should be so low that you need to lie still to hear it.

Have a small glass of milk before bedtime.

Stick to a regular bedtime!

I hope that helps! Sweet Dreams!

I have found that if I try to lay down after midnight I'm up until 3 even if I try to lay down. If I lay down at 11 I fall fast asleep. Guess it is 'catching a second wind.' Sleeping pills never worked for me either but a bit of alcohol always did, not too much just one serving of any type, I like red wine but my husband will drink a beer so whatever you like. You really need at least 6 hours sleep, which recent studies have shown healthier than 8, so try a glass of wine at midnight then lay down in a relaxing atmoshpere: music, TV, dark and quiet, whatever works for you.

You're going to have to retrain your body to be ready to sleep at a far earlier time. Try reading half an hour or so before you're ready to sleep: That way your body won't be revved up. And try a soothing cup of tea, or perhaps a small glass of wine.

I do agree that sleeping pills are a bad idea, except as a last resort.

You have gotten yourself trained to go to bed at that late hour. I have always had good luck w/ Melatonin. That and extremely boring things after 8p should work for you. Dont let yourself get excited about anything. Stay off the computer, away from the games, away from thriller movies, etc. It will take some work but you can do this. Good luck.

Since its a habit, the only thing you need to do is break the habit. Sleep early. No matter how you induce yourself with tons of pills, if you still have the old habit, it will never work.

Why don't you go to a doctor and get a prescription. I have found that Ambien works very well. '

You have to get your body in the cycle of getting up and going to bed at the same time every day.

The Ambien can help. Be active during the day and go to sleep at a certain time at night;
