In Rovaniemi active daylight (lets define by reading a newspaper) some 5 hours, But you will see shades of blue, you would not expect, just stay out of city lights..
If a night in Tampere go for the thing not to be experienced anywhere else for less than 6 bucks a night. See web page talviuimarit.fi. Best hotel value to stay if more than 1 is here http://www.omena.com/frontpage in the center no staff just a code.

What a good question. The answer will depend on where exactly you are in Lapland, which day in December and what you mean by daylight! Wow. Acording to my atlas Lapland is in the north of Finland about 70 degrees north of the equator. Lets asume you want to know the figure for 15th which is the middle of the month; and by daylight you mean from sunrise to sunset. I found a website at http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.html that gave me the answer. The sun never rises above the horizon on 15th December this far North.
However, if you were an astronomer wanting to look at the stars you would say that it was not completely night. This Civil twilight lasts from 08:19 to 12:35 GMT (the time in the UK). That's four hours 16 minutes. Most ordinary folk would say it was dark all day!
Regards
James

It's quite dark - there is answer above which goes in detail about it. Lapland is favourite winter destination for many Finns and foreign tourists....depends where you are going, but there is lots of drinking and partying (my friend worked there last winter, she didn't get sober for six months!) I guess if you are into winter sports or wanna see Santa, you will enjoy yourself too. Also, place looks absolutely fantastic covered with snow! Tampere is slightly gloomy in the winter time, but Helsinki is always fun. Hope you will enjoy your trip!

Assuming Lapland is north of the arctic circle, there is no daylight in Lapland in December , it's dark all day.

Its dark all day ,
If there is cloud cover, then its as black as night all the time.
Without cloud cover there is a faint twilight a very deep artic blue sky.
If your into herding reindeer then you will be ok.
PS make sure you have packed your winter woollies.
It can easily reach minus -35.C.
