They have no real purpose. They are just for people with no life of their own. "Reality" shows suck. My own life is fascinating enough; I don't feel the need to watch other peoples' lives....especially a bunch of glorified, no-talent karaoke singers, a group of morons on an island, or a pack of whiny college kids sharing the same house.

The same purpose as any show on TV. Get the most viewers so you can charge a premium for commercial ad space. People watch reality TV so networks schedule those shows and thus make more revenue as their ad time is more valuable.
There is no real-life purpose. It's not a science.

they say that is for romance and crap, in spite of the indisputable fact that that is actual for the interest and the money. obviously, in the adventure that they want more effective interest, they want some action, so further and extra human beings watch.

to show us how the rest of america is... some smart, stupid, selfish, funny, goofy... just that everyone is different and its ok.. Plus I do think it is a little bit of a conspiracy theory trying to get us used to the government monitoring us.
