I have to have a fan running when I am inside the house all year long. I feel like I am going to go crazy if I am subjected to ear ringing silence. what about you?

I went to the Highlands of Scotland about 8 years ago and stayed in this place that was miles away from anything. I couldn't sleep for the first three nights I was there, purely because it was, as you put it, absolute silence.
Even in the middle of winter I need my bedroom window open a bit, just to hear the traffic rumbling away outside. I can't stand it when it's too quiet.

At times if there is absolute silence then there seems to be something missing and I need to have some sort of sound in the background. At other times though its perfect since its a relief to get away from the world for a bit.

Yes it does. Silence anywhere annoys me. Silence at dinner, Silence just sitting there. Makes me feel like the person I am with has nothing to say to me or does not want to talk to me..

actually there is no such thing as absolute silence. I remember learning about that from my seventh grade science teacher. No matter how quiet it is, there is always something making noise.

But yeah, Iike you, I also keep a fan running all year long. Gotta love the white noise!

I have three children,so, absolute silence is usually nonexistent in my life. So, when the opportunity happens, I do enjoy the silence.

on the contrary i find absolute silence soothing ,in our modern world (especially if you live in a city )silence is so hard to come by that when you are lucky enough to find a pocket of silence it is a blessed relief
