No, you're not being selfish. When I was looking for my very first job, my father wanted me to work with him as his assistant at Santa Fe Railroad....it would've been a great opportunity, but I couldn't see having to work with my father 5 days a week, 8 hours a day....especially since I was also living at home at the time. I thanked him for the thought, but went out on my own to look for a job. Living with and working with/for a relative is a bad move....my ex-husband and I worked for the same company, when our marriage ended, I found out it was because of his affair (the company was a tight-knit group)...another bad move. So no, you are not being selfish, you are being practical.

No you are not being selfish. I wouldn't want to work for my mother either. Ask her nicely to apply somewhere else. Try talking to her about wanting to be independent. If she insists on applying, I suggest you start applying for other jobs.

no not really, it could make things awkward for you at work.... people may get onto you for being the managers son/daughter!! it may not be so bad.. it all depends on the relationship you have with your mother..... give it a go, what have you to lose, and if your not comfortable talk to your mother about it!!! good luck

She actually wouldn't be able to work with you, over you, or likely even at the same time you do. You can run into a problem with nepotism, so the company would not let you two work together.

First check, if the company are ready to hire your mom. as im aware in most cases they dont take relatives.
i truly understand your case, its happens wid most ususally they are uncomfortable working with their own relations, since the family member knws u so well. if they shout or fire for small issue ofcurs u wil not take it in business sense rather in u wil take it too personally. so its best to avoid lettin your relations work in same firm. as business n family not always all go hand in hand...

I think she would be so careful with your work and care for it more than anybody else. Plus, she was a manager for years. I think she would be efficient at this job.

If you can, make sure you aren't scheduled on the same shift as her.
