My gauge goes to Discharge until i accelarate then to charge.I figured it was the battery so i bought a new one.Well the new one seems weaker then the old one.The belts sqeel a bit.Should i buy some of that belt adhesive? I don't think it's tha alt cause like i explained it charges at a fast idle or when driving faster, let off the gas and it goes right back down into the discharge zone with the red warning light.

It sounds like the alternator to me. Windings and bearings get warn out along with the other components of the alternator explaining why it charges when you accelerate and the squealing belt. Or your belt is just to loose.

Most of the above answers point you in the right direction. If you don't have volt meter most auto parts store have on car tester to check the charging system. One other thing to check(especially on Dodge and Chrysler) is idle speed. If it is too low it will not turn the alt fast enough to charge.

The first thing you need to do is check the condition and tension of you belts. Fix that first!

It sounds like a bad alternator. Alternator output should be 13.6 volts. Test it yourself by using a volt-meter between the big cable on the back of the alternator and ground (negative terminal on the battery). Don't be too suprised if you need another new battery, too. Pairing a (new) good battery with a bad alternator can make the battery go bad very fast. It would be best to replace them both together.

first if the belt squeels that means its lose. tighten it up. second there is a good possiblity, if i remember correctly, that you have a voltage regulator on the firewall and if you do, change it because it controls the output voltage. also you can tighten the belt and then take the whole car to the parts house and have them do a complete starting/charging test. oh, and running output at the battery should be no less than 14.6, not 13.6

Iv'e seen a very poor connection at the firewall in chyrsler vehicles that use a amp meter to be culprit behind most electrical gremlins in these vehicles. The stock wiring detiorates at this juncture over time leaving the impression of a multitude failures with no ryme or rythem. Restore this connection to absolute perfection with an eye to bypassing the amp meter(with fuse protection)and replacing it with a volt meter for future monitoring.

I would check the belt If the belt is not tight that will not allow it to charge properly, also I would take the car to Auto zone for a free Charging system check.

Could be a loose belt or alternator starting to go.
