You've posted under Social Science > Psychology

If that's your degree then you've answer your own question. There is little that is interesting, motivating or useful in a psychology degree.

Many people go to uni because ts the "next step" in education. This is obviousy nonsense and by the time you start a degree it should be based on a career or interest choice and so would be motivating anyway if you got the chose right.

You could always leave and practise saying "do you want fries with that". Your choice.

But if your at uni, obviously with free time, you're probably young, its a beautiful day...if your bored now, just wait until you get a non-descript job. you are wasting your current opportunity, turn off your PC and go and do something useful.

It sounds like you are procrastinating. Procrastination is the deferment or avoidance of an action or task and is often linked to perfectionism. For the person procrastinating this may result in stress, a sense of guilt, the loss of productivity, the creation of crisis, and the chagrin of others for not fulfilling one's responsibilities or commitments. While it is normal for individuals to procrastinate to some degree, it becomes a problem when it impedes normal functioning.

I added some websites that have useful hints on how to get motivated again. The ability to get things done and overcome procrastination is one of the most important skills to master if you wish to attain good mental health.

“Procrastination is the thief of time.”

I'm like that sometimes as well. You are just trying to distract yourself because you know that once you apply yourself to school, you'll be stuck doing that for awhile and it's not as entertaining.

"Procrastination" is a word that describes the overall human condition pretty nicely. But knowing yourself is also handy-- in my own case if I find I'm starting to use a web site to distract myself from working or doing other things that are profitable and fun, I know from experience that it will run its course; my usual binge for a web site or a game is a month. After that I get bored with it.

Therefore, knowing now that my obsession has a term helps me to overcome it at need-- if I find myself getting hung up on something that's not essential to my survival, I tell myself that I'm going to be done with it in a month, but my bills and other responsibilities will still be there-- and that makes it much easier to "step away from the computer" and get on with life.

For the same reason I and millions of other people did it when we were students. Now that we are in employment we try to get time off work.

It's called human nature

I do it too, I will clean the house and do the most mind numbing tasks rather than do my coursework. It's distracting work avoidance

Me too!! It's called distraction techniques. It's like 'before I do my assignment I'll just wash up, hoover, send an email to my mate, make a cup of tea, get something to eat...................'!!! Don't worry about it, we all need time to chill! xx
