How far in advance do you typically buy a birthday gift for your wife?
Do you feel 'forced' to buy something, anything? I'd like a candid view on how men (perferably married) feel about their wife's birthday. Thank you.

Jcontrols, I'm sorry about your wife, perhaps this wasn't the question for you.

No, I enjoy buying presents for my wife. If I find something I know she will like I will buy it when I see it and hold it back. Otherwise, I generally just pay attention throughout the year when she says things like: "Oh, I'd love one of those." I commit it to memory and then go back close to her birthday and pick it up. Good shopping requires a little thought, now and again!!

I love giving gifts, so I usually have her gift picked out a month or so in advance. I never feel forced to buy something; I just like to give gifts to people. It is the way I show someone I love them.

I am sure other men are different though.

When I was married, I would typically plan for the purchase well in advance, and usually put a lot of thought into it as well. As for actually making the purchase - probably 1 week in advance was typical. I didn't feel forced, but did feel somewhat obligated. I know it would have "hit the fan" if I didn't get anything!

I love giving gifts and not just for the holidays so I would say at least 3 months ahead but then I was never able to keep from giving it to her so it actually turned out being a week or so! I enjoyed giving them as much as she did receiving them.

I buy it the day before. As you are probably aware holidays don't have much significance for men. Most of us do realize that they have much more meaning for women and we try to appease them. If we forget we can always say every day with them is special. (and we will sometimes forget. yes we do feel forced to buy something and it is usually just that 'something'. We are not creative but do like to see you happy.

I try to make it a nice day for my wife. Usually I will purchase gifts online several weeks in advance.

I have a birthday, anniversary, and Christmas gift all in the same month, so it does get a little frustrating. Especially when I simply can't figure out what to get!!!

I am always a last minute shopper so 3 or 4 days at the earliest because if she wants something and I know it a month before, she want something better between that time and her b-day

I start looking at eBay about a month before -) Yeah - it feels like a pressure because I hate to shop. But she is understanding about that and even when she doesn't like the present - she will not give me a hard time...
