Ha ha ha.....I totally hear what you're saying. I just read that article as well, and the thing that entered my mind was, why is he selling this on ebay? People are money hungry. I wonder also why someone would purchase this off of ebay? Personally, I wouldn't but it....what purpose does it have for me? The illegal issue I think is true too, but I'm guess there's probably some detailed note to where it's not legal of why they opened it. What is it? I don't know, but who knows.

It's not illegal. The man that the letters were addressed to is dead and so is his wife. They tried to find family members..... Not illegal but disgusting! These letters are prayers. It's plain the see that these were written as an exercise in prayer by a congregation. The minister of that church never opened them. Selling them on e-bay is beyond vile and foul. The person who would buy them is tacky and crass. The person who would sell them is evil.
It seems to not have crossed anyones mind that just because the Pastor has died doesn't mean that the people who wrote the letters are dead too. They are still out there and will have all that personal pain on e-bay for the world to read. they are the ones that should have the letters.

I just read the same article. I can't believe that he is selling those on eBay. What a jerk. What kind of example is that to his son? It is not illegal if he found them in a public place, technically those are his letters if no one comes forward to claim them, but since the person that they did belong to is no longer living, they are his. Those are people's feelings and personal beliefs, they are truely calling out for help because they need it. He should turn the letters in to a church and let them handle it. The people that those letters belong to should be contacted by the clergy and helped, that was their original purpose. I am not religious in any way but I think that guy needs help if he is expecting to get money for doing something so wrong.

I read that article this morning. And it was sad- very sad. And it's an even sadder commentary on the state of the human race that this guy can think to profit off the pain of so many others. Anyway, the dumping part IS illegal. So why was that mail in the water in the first place?

I thought it was illegal, but if its not, it should be. And the thought of selling such personal letters where people poured their hearts out is disgusting! How would he like it if someone took some of his most personal information and sold it!!! Sadly it boils down again for the love of money...shame on him!!!

It's illegal if it's sent through the post office. Then it's a federal offense.
