And prescritpion drugs aren't harmful? That's why the drug makers have to announce all side effects of a new drug. Putting anything in your body that was not there in the first place is harmful. But it's not about that.... It's about money!! The government is making billions off of lobbyists, kickbacks and exorbitant costs to consumers. The drug war is a profit machine.

There is no good reason why some drugs are illegal and others are not.
Marijuana is one of the most harmless drugs out their but it is illegal, why? Meanwhile Tobacco is one of the most addictive drugs that cause a laundry list of health problems. Alcohol is another very addictive drug that seriously impairs judgment to the point that if you have even a little bit in your system you should not do simple things like drive. But these dangerous drugs are highly regulated but completely legal.
The idea that the government wants to protect our health is insane. The government could band smoking and drinking, then force people to drink milk and eat their greens and get a lot of sleep and exercise; and we would have the healthiest country in the world. But they don't do that.
Freedom of choice is the cornerstone of democracy. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke... not because the government says I shouldn't but because I am a well informed human being and I know that these things can hurt me, and even the people around me.
We spend far too much money on arresting people for drugs and we need to spend more money on educating people on the dangers of drug. If an educated person risks their life by doing drugs, then oh well, maybe it that better they are not around that long.

Drugs don't really contribute to society in a positive sense for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that because it is illegal it promotes violence outside of ordinary commerce. Take also into consideration that our society is not driven as it once was thousands of years ago by shamanistic ritual where expanding the consciousness is of the utmost importance. We live in a much more competitive world now and for the most part we are left with decision to either do drugs and lay about enjoying the effects or not do drugs and compete effectively with the rest of the world.
Cheers!

If drugs were legalized it would out all of the Drug Lords out of business. I mean who would want to buy drugs from a Colombian drug lord when you could get whatever you wanted at the local gas-station. The best way to win the War On Drugs would be to legalize them.

That's like saying that because the murder rate is so high, let's just make it legal. You must have some rules to guide society and prevent things from free fall. Look at the good and bad things about drugs. Drugs ruin peoples lives.

That's a good question, as in this day and age, if someone wants drugs they will get them one way or another...It's like prostitution, in other countries where it's legalised, sex offences are well down on other countries where it's still illegal...and quite a bit of revenue is generated also...the difference with drugs is who decides what, what levels, and the protection of individuals has to be the main consideration...drugs can kill, so where do you have the cut off point...so much per week, so much per day?...and as we all know, once hooked, how can you stick to your "allowance"? cannabis, cocain, marijuana not so bad, but heroine, crack etc. impossible.

no, because ,we as a nation are screwed up anyway. we are irresponsible little brats. imagine how screwed we would be if anyone who wanted to be on drugs were high all the time. would the incidences of child neglect and abuse rise or fall? what about car accidents? we do enough stupid crap when we are sober, we dont need illicit drugs thrown into the mix to make us even more handicapped.

Well like drinking and driving, you may present a danger to others while under the influence.
