Maybe 'cos a more serious question demands thought to have a good answer in return? People could be lazy and not want to think. Other people are in it just for the points so an easy answer to a silly Q would be much simpler than being genuinely helpful

The same with answers. I spent time with an educated answer on gun control yesterday and when I hit the preview button BINGO. It disappeared. So this will be the last time I give an attempt to give, in my opinion, a half educated answer. From now on I will answer yes or no and take the quick points. Like I care about points!

i think part of it is that so many serious answers are judged by others on here, and its had to have freedom of speech. We tend to answer the silly questions just for amusement to feed our little minds

its because sirious questions demand thought and silly ones do not, allthough actually i think that silly question demand that you be in some way funny and in some ways that is probably more difficult to do than it is to be thoughtful about something, to be thoughtfull you just need time to think but to be funny you need atleast a small ammount of talent.
