HI,

At 3 a.m. Detroit time on Nov. 11, 1918, the imperial German army radioed to the world that it had signed the Allied unconditional terms of surrender. The guns of the Great War, later known as World War I, became silent, replaced by outbursts of joy across the nation. It was over, over there.

This is know as First Armistice DAy.

Redgs,

Venkat

The first Armistice Day was November 11, 1919; it did not become a legal Federal holiday until 1938. On June 1, 1954 President Eisenhower changed the name of the memorial holiday to Veteran's Day.
