Stranger than fiction.

Fiction: They have never won it and I don't see them winning it this year. In fact no team has EVER started 8-0 or better and won the Stanley Cup and I don't think Buffalo will be the first. The Sabres are having a lot of there wins in shootouts and it is inflating the record (same thing happend to the Stars here in Dallas last season). I think the Sabres already have something around 5 wins by SO if that is the case in the old NHL the record is not nearly as impressive. The game is a lot different in the 2nd and 3rd OT come playoff time.

They are Stanley Cup Contenders. No Doubt. However, the city seems to have the most horrible luck. From the Bills (X4), to Brett Hull being in the crease. I just think the city is cursed or something. I think the Sabres are in the top 2 in the East. The only team I can see matching up well against them in a 7 game series is the Pens cuz they always seem to play well against them.

The Western Conference is stronger right now.

If Buffalo can grab 1 Superstar, that might put them over the top. What's with losing Jay McKee??? That was a mistake. They need a smashmouth defenseman then they should easily make it to the finals; barring the Pens get hot.

:)

For the sabres to go all the way, a lot of things need to happen. First off, they need to stay healthy, especially in March when they need to have the core ready for the playoffs. Secondly, they need consistent goaltending. Once again, it's been proven that a hot goalie can take you all the way. Look at Carolina last year. Very seldom do you see defensive minded clubs that go all the way. New Jersey comes to mind, but then again, they have arguably the greatest goalie in NHL history.

Finally, they need to have consistent special teams play. The new NHL punishes all those teams who take stupid penalties. At least before, the way the game was structured, you wouldn't have been shorthanded 6 or 7 times on average.

If they can stay healthy and be consistent, the sabres may very well lift the cup in June.

Fiction. Out of all the teams who had an opening win-streak like the sabres, none of them won the cup. I think the Leafs were the closest back in '93.

Give them a few months and a few more games and than we will make a call on if they will win the cup or not. So far they look promising though.

Fiction: Buffalo has never won a cup.

Fact. Here's why. Last postseason, they almost beat the eventual champion Hurricanes even though some of their best D-men were out and the ones in were all practically injured. Not only that, but Miller has one more year of experience under him which will help him this playoffs. Their team is meant for this new NHL: speed, quick passing and shooting, great skating and deking. They've shown what they are capable of, by going like 11-0-1, so i don't see how that isn't an indication that they can win it all.

Too obvious...Fiction.

Dr. J: How the Sabres have a 85-1 record? They only play 82 games.

As long as they play all season as well as they are palying now yeah they are legitimate cup challengers. But they need to stay healthy, that was the issue at the end of last season durning the playoffs. They had way to many injuries to key players that would have helped them get past Carolina and to the cup!
