Rome is good-very historical and picturesque, Madrid is a bit boring, Paris is good for architecture and romance, London is really busy and hugely expensive, Amsterdam and Prague are full of drunken English stag parties, Copenhagen is nice but a little small. If you want a European City with loads to see and do then it has to be Barcelona. If you want to go spectacular and different then Lake Como in Italy is beautiful - especially when you get on a boat, it's not massively busy either, just nice and chilled. Have a good time wherever you decide to go!

Rome can be expensive, your best best is to try Switzerland or Rural Germany. I went as a child when I was 10 years old, when I reached the age of 17, I went back and the prices were the same and everybody was friendly. OK, Germany has a history that is considered a black mark, but if you look past that and see the country away from the touristy areas, you'll find that people are more than happy to help you, whereas in touristy areas, people are a lot less forthcoming and don't really try to help you. Outside of this however, you will find that people are very friendly and will want to know you (and will treat you like a friend/one of the family)

If it is for you and your boyfriend I advise Venice. It is the most romantic city in the world with beautiful architecture and the fact that there are no cars so you have to walk or take the river bus (via boat) makes it the best place to go. It is a couples holiday and is pricey also it can smell in summer and flood in winter when you get there but it is amazing.
If you want somewhere that doesn't flood and is more busy try Paris which is also very romantic, sat out eating by the seine while someone is playing a violin on the bridge. however it will be cold at this time of year.
Amsterdam, Prague, Barcelona and Rome are all lovely cities but are better to go with a group of friends

Well I lived in Amsterdam and it's great, better if you know where to go out to eat, Prague is also a great place both are gonna be a bit chilly now but all the bars in Amsterdam have heaters outside so you can still sit out.
I also lived in Helsinki for a year and that's a great place, though drinking with your meal in a restuarant bumps up the price big style. That's a place to go in summer. Soumenlinna is worth a visit takes an hour to walk around has lots of museums and cafes, get there by public boat in 15min from the harbour.
I would go to Brugge in Belgium, not expensive to get there and wow, what a place. Loads of nice food and really friendly people.
The centre has like a moat around it and very romantic......

If you want it a bit warmer, Lisbon is nice as is Barcelona.
Don't know how much warmer this time of year though.
Enjoy where ever you pick
Though i'd only go to France if you can speak French, they have a bit of an attitude and say they don't speak English even though they speak it better than a lot of us....funny lot!
Ps...Hey Martin... a few above.....good on ya!

Rome is amazing - good thing about it is there is so much to do, the colluseum, the vatican, all the ruins - there is almost too much to do in just a weekend (unless it was a long weekend!)
It was my favourite city, but then Paris is also pretty gosh darned special, especially if you like art. The art galleries are simply the best in the world, bar none. And the monmartre is so atmospheric (try to stay there if you go, it is gorgeous).
Barcelona is a fantastic vibrant city to go, again, with loads to do. All of Gaudi's fab architecture is so worth seeing, and the old part of barcelona is amazing to walk round.
Have a great time wherever you end up!

I went to Rome at this time of year a few years ago - it was great. So much to see - and it wasn't expensive - we flew there with Ryan Air from Stansted. You land a Ciampino but there is a bus (it was 6 euros each then) to take you into Termini in central Rome.
Yes, you do need to watch your valuables - but we weren't troubled at all.
It's cheaper to eat in the cafes and restaurants in the back streets rather than, for example, near attractions like the Trevi Fountain.
The view from the top of St Peter's was fantastic - and the decorations inside the Cathedral are amazing.
The Vatican art gallery is a must, and the Sistine Chapel is, well...
The Forum just exudes history. Everywhere you step you tread on a bit of history.
Trajan's column is incredible.
So many old churches to see; and the Colosseum is just unbelievable.
The whole city is full of things to see that demand superlatives.
And the shopping is good too.
Go to Rome - I can't wait to go back.

Amsterdam. Generally cheap flights from most regional airports, easy transport from Schipol to Amsterdam Central via train. English speaking helpful polite Dutch people. Lots of Hotels of varying prices (but make sure you book before you go don't arrive hoping to find somewhere). Try to stay near Dam Square then you can walk to almost all the tourists attractions. Loads of places to eat. Generally not too expensive for food and drink. Weather is usually very similar to whatever is happening in the UK so this can sometimes be a little disappointing but there's lots to do and mega shopping opportunities. And of course it has to be a place where you tell everyone you've been.
try these links www.bmibaby.com and www.accorhotels.com. Have stayed at the Victoria and the Sofitel (both excellent) but these are not budget price hotels.

Brussels is a good place to go - you can get there by train so no airport problems and Eurostar do great first class travel & hotel deals too which include meals and free champagne so its a nice way to start and finish your weekend. If you stay near the Grande Place you're within walking distance of some fantastic restaurants and bars, there's two main shopping streets depending on budget, and the food, wine and beer is well priced. And don't start me on the chocolate! Although most of the restaurants close around midnight there are plenty of smaller bars and clubs open til really late. You don't need to speak the language but they don't get sniffy with you when you have a go at it (unlike in Paris!).

Rome is a great place to go in the summer but at this time of year it's wet and gloomy - u might as well stay in the uk. Venice is a better option as it is beautiful anytime of year - but there are limited things you can do - gondola's,churches and muesums.
A great place to go for the weekend is Austria. Vienna is good for shopping and sightseeing but if you're going for a romatic break then I would recommend that you go to Innsbruck or Salzberg. You can book a country house at very cheap prices (£20 per night). The owners are lovely and traditional austrian breakfast is included.
Have fun!

if you don't want expensive, stay away from Swiss.German.Autrian towns. Why not try something in Spain? Barcelona? Madrid? I wouldn't do Rome for a weekend - too much to see, to noisy and too populated to do it all in a weekend. as someone else said, Prague is on the up (but i think too popular at the moment to be cheap), but i also here that Budapest is opening up and has some exquisite places to go to. Good luck, and enjoy it!
