if you use for all these purposes, i surely assist you to go ahead with intel pentium 4, because the others which you have mentioned are for only packages like c and others even you can also purchase intel core duo it is also a better option so all the best.

The Core 2 Duos are the fastest processors out right now, despite what other people are saying. I'll give benchmarks. Anyway, if you are on a budget and the E6300 Core 2 Duo is still too expensive, then I would suggest going to the Athlon 64 X2s, and only if you are on a super tight budget go to the Athlon 64s.
If this is for a laptop, the still go with the Core 2 Duo, and on a budget go to the Turions.

u may go for intel core 2 duo E6300 which costs Rs-9500
intel 945 GCL essential desktop series board Rs 5500
512 ddr2 ram Rs 2500
80 gb harddisk Rs2200
15'' monitor 4500
combo drive 1300
creative 2.1speakers 1200
key board and mouse 800

ups 1000
it comes around 29000 above the budget mentioned by u but the performance will be mind boggling as the processor and board are more advanced there will not be any problem for u next 4 years

Among the options given,
1. AMD Athlon
2. Intel Core 2 Duo
If you are Anti-Intel then (1) would be the perfect choice
However if you belong to the Intel religion or FanClub then (2) which has just been released would be the wiser choice

i vote 4 amd athlon 64 bit, it is cheaper but better then intel's, loads of online comparison has prooved it, but yeah they dont have advertisement budget a lot.
N yeah, if u want to have good system then have 1 GB RAM + some decent graphic card (nvide geforce series is good) It is required because next OS from windows, vista, will run only on systems having 512+ RAm n good graphic card.
ram playes major role in performance of ur system, mind it... speed of RAm matters a lot, go 4 333 mhz one at least
