Is it on the left or on the right if you are facing your toilet. I always thought all toilets had the flush on the right hand side (if you are facing your toilet), until I went to a friends and hers is on the left. I know its not something major, but ever since I went to press the flush on the right of her toilet it has been playing on my mind!

Can you tell me where you are from with your answer please? Thanks.

By the way I am in the UK.

Lol, I know it really doesn't matter, but half the questions on Y!A don't matter. I know the answers I get will not change my life, I was just wondering...and preparing myself for future visits to the toilet!

Thanks!

Oh goodness me...in the middle too? This just gets more and more confusing, lol.
Actually come to think of it, i ahve also used a toilet with a flush in the middle, but this didn't perplex me as much as the handle on the wrong side!

At the risk of confusing you and causing you sleepless nights I have a button on top of the cistern. In fact there are two buttons, one for a half flush and one for a full flush.

I too am in the UK.

If you would look it up in history, the US and UK does things differently. US has the metric System the Uk has the English System. Cars in the us are Left hand drive and Right hand drive cars are for the Britons. These are also evident in the countries that they have occupied or colonized. I believe they are competing with each other thinking that one of them is doing the right thing better than the other. So don't be baffled when you see something presented in a totally different manner or style.

PS What would you think/say if I told you that there are toilet that has no flush handle but a push button on top of the toilet set-up available in the market today. (LOL)

lol just the kind of thing that perplexes me too! Mine is on the right when facing it, Im in the UK. Like a previous poster here, I also have never seen one that flushes on the left. On occasions where I've used really old toilets with the chain and pull handle, those have been on the right when facing it, too.

It is a religious thing as Muslims must use the left hand for toilet purposes so flush handles must be on the left in Muslim homes,
Hope this answers your query, it is of course complete nonsense but worth 2 points like all but 1 of the sensible answers

Well mine is in the middle as I don't have a cistern, there is just a pipe going all the way up from the loo and into the ceiling and the flush is a pressy button arrangement on the pipe. Stupid German toilets, there isn't anywhere to put a bloo loo ;o)

I think most are on the right. Mine are in the middle. Between 70 and 90% of the worlds population are right handed, the rest being left handed or ampidexterous, so it makes sense that these things are the right. That could be construed as being a little lefthandist mind...

Well you'll notice most cisterns have the handle on the right and a blanking plate in the same position on the L/H side so the plumber has the option for a R/H or L/H side. Life must be going well for you if all you have to worry about is loo handles?

I like to think I'm well travelled etc and do you know I have never come across a loo that flushes on the left. Makes you wonder if you can have your flush handle modified if you are left handed. The mind boggles.

We have 2 toilets and one has the handle on the left and one on the right! I think some cisterns allow you to have either like fridge doors etc can be changed over to which side is most convenient!

Centre, on top of tank. UK
PS its not a hnadle, just a button to push down, actually 2 buttons together, one for a light flush and one for heavy.
:D

Edit: I've also been to public toilets which have been built in recently (in UK) that have a sensor flush for hygiene reasons. Basically u put your hand close to the sensor which triggers off the flush, so you dont have to touch it!
