or at best misleading?
Most of their info on unemployment is drawn from people receiving unemployment benefits in their states. Many people never QUALIFY for these benefits or as in Texas the former employer can actually BLOCK a person from receiving these benefits. Also if you do not find a job before the benefits run out, you are no longer considered unemployed - you are "no longer in the job market".

Unemployment figures sited by conservatives are FALSE.

Has anybody in Yahooland moved from the unemployed count to the false "no longer seeking employment" count?

proud2b - sure McDonalds is hiring all day long. Many of the newly created jobs can not support a person.

You may be able to find a job any time you like. But that does not apply to everybody. I know many people who who went many months being unemployed due to their age, medical conditions, background etc. All illegal (or unethical) but business has subtle ways to get around these laws if they choose to.

I too am proud to be an American. I just believe we can do much better than we are currently doing.

I don't know the correct unemployment figure is. The problem is neither does our government nor do they care. The unemployed don't tend to vote.

proud2b - sorry but I am not a Democrat. I am not "leaking" info to get any Republicans booted.
You have "assumed" my political affiliation - you know what they say about when you assume?!

Those unemployment figures you stated are FALSE - they may be the best the government can come up with - but they are still FALSE.

MaeWest - hi, great ID.
No I am currently employed. Today is my day off but my employer is having a party & handing out bonus checks later today so I will be heading to work shortly.
I am incensed at the method of information collection our government uses to collect unemployment figures. Since their data collecting method is extremely faulty, the percentages given can only be incorrect. Our government needs to do a better job & certain politicians need to get off their high horse quoting faulty data that makes them look good.

fatboysdaddy - you will notice that I have chosen not to use the terms conservatives or liberals or Democrats or Republicans. Although different administrations have chosen to use different parameters & methods of data collection, any/all politicians are spreading bad data if they use the current unemployment figures.

proud2be - I apoligize for MY assumption/misreading of your post. However now I see you have posted your 20 years experiance in an area that may make you less than open minded on this subject. I don't know for sure but is it a possiblity?
Also anybody that assumes that an unethical company will not abuse any law is living with their heads in a cloud. I have worked for two such companies myself. Most of these companies know exactly how far they can push the law. How could a prospective employee possibly prove he/she was NOT hired due to their medical disability? They just never hear back from the interviewers.

proud2be - on the subject of age discrimination. I personally seen three different pre-employment applications that required information that could easily be linked to age - ie years attending high school etc. One openly asked for age in a "voluntary" survey that was included with the job application. Don't tell me it doesn't happen - I have personally seen these forms. Luckily my employer believes in "diversity".

Everyone who works in the government is reporting lies just so people will not know the truth?
The same numbers that you say are claimed by the conservatives are still the same ones that were claimed by the liberals under Mr. Clintion so theirs were false as well?

Illegal extraterrestrial beings are doing the roles we do not desire, like CEO of GM. When I was once a child, a few of the children did the garden paintings and snow removing round right here. Now we now have Mexicans doing that, for plenty more cash. That ought to be development. It is feasible that the earnings the illegals ship house is inflicting the corporations that rent them to fudge their taxes, in order that could affect the economic climate. On the opposite hand, the identical companies aren't deducting for the worker's withholding or social protection. Or something else. Those 2 models could offset each and every different. I do not know. Personally, I am unwell and worn out of listening to Mexican song radio, having to press a million for English at the mobile and identical diverse annoyances. I want they would pass house.

Most figures, statistics, and charts are never 100 percent accurate, sometimes by a lot, sometimes by a little.

Is there a reason something like this would bother you so much? I know I don't ever give things like this a thought! If I have a job, I'm working; if I don't, I'm not working. Unemployment statistics aren't going to affect me one way or the other. If there is ANY unemployment, the jobs are just harder to find, because more people are vying for the job you want. Are you job hunting, and that is why you're upset--you're not fitting into a category? Do we really need labels & categories ?

So what is the right percentage? You tell us.

*If* there is a person who is not working in the United States today it is because they choose not to work.

They may not be able to find a job making $20.00 an hour but if a person wants to work, there are jobs available. The proof of this is in many job markets inside the United States the so-called minimum wage doesn't even apply. Employers can't get enough people to fill the open positions they have now. They are paying up to 50% over the minimum wage just to attract workers.

I have never not been able to find a job any day of the week.
You are trying to mislead the people here.

Do you know why what you are saying makes no sense? If the Democrat Party could prove 5 days before an election that the unemployment figures that the Bush Administration claims were bogus they would be all over it like flies on poo. You aren't hearing anything fro the Democrat Party on this. You may hear them complain about needing higher paying jobs but they can not say that jobs do not exist. As for higher paying jobs, you can thank the Labor Unions for the loss of higher paying jobs. They priced themselves right out of the job market by getting greedy. A company is in business to make a profit. They have shareholders to answer to. If they can make a higher profit by moving their companies to other areas where they are not having to pay the majority of their expenses out in wages and benefits they are going to. That is called good business sense. I'm not happy about companies moving overseas myself but we did it to ourselves. You can thank unions like the Teamsters.

The fact is that the unemployment rate in the United States is 4.6%. Which means that 95.4% of the available workforce in the United States is working. That is a very good thing.

PS...
Pardon me, but I didn't mention you being affiliated with any party. I stated that if what you are saying is true the Democrat Party would be all over it 5 days before an election.

That saying about assuming is an old one and yes, I know what they say. You are the one assuming, not I.

I agree, noone can survive by working at McDonalds. A low paying job is better than no job until the person can find a better paying job. I contend that if a person wants to work, they can.

Lastly, ever hear of the American Disabilities Act? *If* there is an individual that can prove that they are being discriminated against due to a disability they could practically destroy a business that does this. That is another good thing. Age... An employer is forbidden BY LAW from asking an applicants age. All they can ask is if the applicant can or can not perform the functions of the job.

Just like lowering gas prices weeks before the elections,
Like assuring citizens that military leaders in Iraq are "all set" with the troops they have and won't need more...

It is all in the name of a false sense of security
