To Mirageguitarworks:

Why use vintage guitars? To get a vintage sound...you know, like back when music was still good! If I had a brand new, 2006 guitar, I'd be making crappy 2006 music, wouldn't I?

They are both great guitars, each with their own unique sounds. I like the Tele for a more laid back sound, and the Strat for it's sizzling pick-ups and thinner neck. Both guitars produce an amazing sound through their Humbucking pick-ups, and both are outstandingly versatile. Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton both played the Strat, and made it a virtual household word in the 60's. Take your pick, I don't think you'll go wrong with either choice.

Many folks have no idea what the Tele is even about or what it sounds like. All they know is that Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, etc. used a Strat so they are going to say the Strat is best and probably have never even played a Tele. I own both and prefer a Tele but yes they are apples and oranges like the person above said. The tremolo on the Strat does leave something to be desired, but is a little more versatile because of the extra pup and and number of switch positions. And like Bolide said the Classic Vibe Squires are awesome guitars.

Depends on what sound you're after...
Strats are a little more versatile having a 5 position p/u switch vs 3, Teles got the twang, Strats got the quack (pos 2 and 4)

derrr I didn't know they both have humbuckers. last time I checked, they both have single coils

Why limit yourself with guitars that were designed in the 40s and 50s?

RESPONSE TO YOUR DETAIL! No. What you need is a very carefully designed guitar that has the roots of the in the technology that brought electric guitars to life but also have a grasp of what the modern musician needs... neither Fender nor Gibson do this. For more info on this thinking visit http://www.miragegworks.com . If you truly believe that 60 year old technology will get you what you want then go for it, but I personally think that this type of thinking has stagnated the guitar industry.

I appreciate your feedback!

Owned both, both sucked. I will never buy a Fender again, nor will I buy a Jackson now that Fender owns them. Gibson is the way to go anymore these days. Unless you go with a custom ESP/LTD or PRS or an unknown brand like Greg Bennett (come stock with Duncan pickups, grover tuners, wilkinson bridge and amazing custom finishes).

stratocaster all the way... i own a stratocaster and my friend owns a telecaster. i love my stratocaster because of the wide variety of sounds you can get from it. It is a more versitile type of guitar. Telecaster is more of a country sounding guitar it has a twang to it.

gretsh's rock and so do es335's and epiphone dot's, sheraton's, casino's, and rivieras. 12 string guitars rock the most though. i wish i was rich... (btw strats are too popular and teles aren't cool enough)
