I have to say it's one of the safest ways to start a new friendship, and quite a bit of the time a life long relationship.

Strongly agree! Two years ago I met someone in Romania while playing a game. It's not a bf/gf thing, just a good friendship. It is very interesting to have the perspective of people from other countries, when it comes to foreign affairs, politics etc. And I get to compare life here in US with his life in Romania. It's been very rewarding.

i agree good friends can be made online..
u connect instantly, that moment they make ur day, i have seen suicide attempts being stopped by online friends..
feelings are expressed on a more naked plane online,as u dont even know the person there.. advice given is more objective etc..
online friendships are also transient, fleeting.. u forget the email id, u meet on an forum.. n they r nothing more than a memory, some angel4eva2345..
good friends, best friends.. can be made online..

The chances of making good friends on the web are just as likely as finding Axe murderers. BE CAREFUL!

I agree that they can. In fact, a couple of my closest friendships were made on here. One has moved to my state, and we're like two peas in a pod.
