Can someone tell me the correct configuration and settings if I'm installing 2 burners (IDE 1 & 2, slave, master). I installed 2 burners. When I booted up, the system recognized the brand, then while searching for drivers, started saying cd-rom and dvd-rom, and then I got the blue screen fatal error and computer restarted itself. After it restarted, I looked in device manager, and the brand name wasn't there. It only said master IDE controller, primary controller and secondary controller, as if some type of genetic driver were installed. Please help.

I think its better if you install them on separate channels . dvd 1 on ide 1 slave ( master being your hard drive. And dvd2 on ide 2 master or slave . Whichever way you configure them , it is imperative you make sure the jumpers on the back of all drives are correct . Then make sure the bios sees them correctly , then save and exit and boot into windows.

I don't see an issue here at all.

As far as recognizing the brand names if may be because the drivers your OS is implementing are generic and not specifically written for that/those drive(s). Did software/drivers come with the burners. Usually not!

You don't state whether your drives are operating or not so I offer the following info.

Installing them both on one IDE channel is not a problem as long as one is recognized as Master and the other is Slave.

Shut down your PC.

Make sure that the IDE connector on the end of the cable furthest away from the MoBo is going to the "master" drive and the connector that is about 5 inches from the end is going to the "slave" drive.

Additonally, take another look and make sure the drive that will receive the connector on the far end of the cable is set to master and the other is set to slave.

Reboot your PC.

You can look at the device manager to see if things are properly recognized, or you can also simply click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and see what it identifies those drives as.

I, personally, don't like using the "Cable Select" positions for the jumpers on the drives that is why I recommend placing the jumpers in the master/slave positions as is necessary.

I know this is basic, but it's good trouble shooting technique.

Hope this helps.

CD and DVD devices HAVE to be on 1 IDE channel. One will have to be set for master and the other for slave! Never try to set up one of these drives on the same IDE channel that a HDD is on! :-)=

Mysticman is faulty. residing house windows won't make it easier to have 2 burners on the comparable IDE channel. He would not understand that, i assume. this is why you need to place one burner on the commonplace channel with the complicatedcontinual, as Slave, then one on the Secondary channel, as grasp.
