I don't think its child abuse, but pointless never-the-less. There are better ways to teach your child. If you teach a child from an early age, soap won't be necessary. Also, check where the child is hearing these words that make you want to use soap. Are you guilty? Maybe TV? Maybe his/her friends. Its not a big deal. They will learn with time, and even then, they will say it behind your back and when you aren't with them. We were all children once, I know that's what I did.

Not 'abuse' but I definitely consider it unnecessary. What's wrong with saying "Don't say that word"?
In most cases they learn those things from their parents anyway. It's wrong to say a word in front of a child, then punish them later for repeating it.

Nope, it's not abuse. My wife has done it with our 11 year old before. Although I don't agree with it as he hears these words from his mom and dad on a daily basis. If you yourself don't swear around him, or don't allow swearing in your house, then I have no problem with it. It sure beats the hell out of "time outs" that most people give kids these days instead of a swift kick in the a$$ most kids deserve these days.
