From This to That (a great glue site):

"PVA Glues -- Plain old white glue

PVA (Polyvinyl acetates) are probably the most common adhesive on the market. They come in a variety of formulas, all ever so slightly different, and specific to what they are designed to glue."

So, if Fevicol is a "white" glue (like Elmer's, etc.), it is okay to use.

PVA (Poly Vinyl Alchohol) is actually a powder that is used to make white transparent glue.Whereas fevicol is combination of Vinyl Acetate Monomer (V.A.M) , P.V.A, Acids (Acrylic Acid) which makes it a much stronger glue and it serves larger purpose than pva glue.

PVA is just plain old Elmer's glue.
