It's this weird jealousy thing that "oh, Man Utd have fans everywhere around the world so they are not REAL fans like us City fans." Stupid basically. Manchester is bug enough to support two sides so good on them.
Just wish the Bitters would wake up and spend money better so there would be a real rivalry for trophies not just stupid derby matches. Then again what successful side wears powder/sky blue. Too lame as a color for your strip no matter the tradition.

I live in the states and there is a joke here that half of the world wide Man U fans live in the US. Although "Soccer" isnt that big here by far the most popular club team in the world here is Man U. This isnt counting the hispanic population becuase they could care less about the Prem. Do I fault Man U for this? Hell no, however they did this it has and will pay off. I know that this wave of popularity in the states for Man U isnt as extreme in England(since there are countless clubs over there) but it is there. I havent been to a Man U game at OT (but would like to just for the love of the game and if the blues just happen to be taking points away from them even better) but from what Ive heard and read it is like being at an intenational airport. That being said I would bet that there are more City fans in greater Manchester than United fans. How many I dont know and this is coming from a neutral source. Just becuase Old Tratford is always sold out and city is rarely doesnt mean United has more fans.

Thats because there aren't, there are lots of Manure fans in SALFORD but in Manchester there are lots more City fans - Fact.
In Greater Manchester the numbers as a whole prob even out, but lets not forget that there are 2 other premiership teams in the Greater Manchester area, Bolton and Wigan, as well as other football league teams Oldham and Stockport to name but a few.
People believe that there is more City fans in manchester cos most of us have a manchester accent, not cockney, irish, martian....

Manchester City wanted it to be a minutes applause instead of silence but evidently United thought that "inappropriate" for some reason. I think that if I was one of those fallen lads, looking down from heaven then I`d want the ground full of the sound of clapping. After all, that`s how you normally respond to good players and teams and I can`t think of anything better than to have 60,000+ people filling Old Trafford with sound. I support neither United or City so I am neutral.

Because it is fact. As a percentage of the Manchester population there are more City fans than United. If you open that to Greater Manchester, there are more Rags. If you open it to the UK, United engulf any other football club.
There are certainly fewer peopel wandering around the Arndale in United shirts than there were 5 years ago, with considerably more Chelsea shirts.
Football fans are fickle beings, and the number of fair weather fans is far larger than genuine football fans!

The truth is that there are plenty of United fans in Manchester.
But one of the most common reasons for disliking United is that their fan base is the largest and most wide-spread in the UK...it is not unusual to find a United fan anywhere outside of Manchester. So it suits their critics to suggest that most football fans from Manchester itself actually support City.

Because the huge majority of Man U fans have never seen manchester, so it is just presumed that Manchester City has a stronger local following.
I presume.

it is a myth perpetuated by bitter city fans who for some reason seem to be prevalent in the entertainment industries. if you work in manchester you find that of season ticket holders for either club 50 % are city 50% united. of less dedicated supporters 50 % are city, 50 % are united. now what this tells you as united have had far larger audiences every week currently 76,000 versus 40,000 is that a lot of non-mancunians support united. well that is obvious, go there and you hear as many scandinavian and irish accents as you do mancunian accents.

I live in Bucks and work in London ,and we have more Manu fans in our office and at the social where I go on Sun than fans of London clubs despite that I do not know anyone who cames from Manchester, and as Manchester Citys ground (COMS) is full for every home game I assume it is full of local people ,where as OT is full of people from London and the home counties plus how many times have you driven North on a Sat afternoon and seen coaches with Torquay reds ,Telford Reds ,Cardiff reds etc etc etc . By the same token have you ever seen vans from the same towns with Telford blues etc .So that leads people toassume that people at City are local as opposed to Man U fans who seem to come from every part of Britian APART from MAnchester

The independent surveys that tell you that its not true are probalby not very well conducted
Try looking at the results from the last FA survey, which clearly indicate that there are more MAn City fans living in Manchester than Man Utd fans.
