I would definetly wait. That is not right. I am a dance teacher and I would not let one of my students start pointe only having three and a half years of ballet. I would decide if they had seven to ten years of ballet and see how their technique and development is at that pointe before making a final decision. You have every way to feel the way you feel. That is your daughter and do not want to see her getting hurt. You need to speak to her ballet teacher and let her know that you think she should wait. I hope that I help you out.

That's really a question to put to the teacher, as well. I went on pointe at age 11, and many years later my body shows no signs of being 'damaged' by it. There are several factors that come in to play here though, besides just age. How well are your daughter's arches developed? How strong are her feet? Is her technique strong enough to support her through learning pointe?
You certainly don't have to have perfect technique to go on pointe - I certainly didn't. But the key factors like turnout and strong arches got me through it a little easier. I had a wonderful teacher who pushed us, but never too far and she was always involved with giving us tips to keep our feet and bodies safe.
Obviously your daughter's teacher feels she's ready or she wouldn't offer to put her on pointe. Any doubts you have I would take up with the teacher, and ask any questions you may have. As a dance teacher myself now, I would hate to put a student on pointe and not have the parents full support or understanding.

even if she is ready like teqnique wise, i would NOT put her on pointe!!!! her ankles, even if strong, r not fully developed and would porbably get hurt fairly easy. she would also b more likely 2 have multiple physical probblems l8ter on. PLEASE don't let her. even if she really wants 2 she has the rest of her dancing career, believe me i have seem ppl start early and get very hurt. i would say around age 12 or 13. i know it doesn't seem that much age difference between 10 but the bone structure and development is so much better at those older ages. i hope u make the right decision 4 yr daughter. :)

It sounds rather young, but if your daughter's arches and especially tendons and muscles are suffciently strong, then it should be OK. How much time on point will she be doing - if only 1 1hour clas/week it should be OK. If you can do it diplomatically, you might ask another teacher at the school or an outside party to evaluate your daughter.

I think it's a great chioce to allow her 2 do so, but u should really be asking your daughter does she want to do this. It won't affect her body in a bad way at all, in fact pointe is an excellent source of cariovasular excersie! So.. definately ask ur daughter 1st. it's very strenuous on the body.

I've seen television shows about the effects can sometimes have, but rather than give out second hand information, I think you should check with an orthopeadic physician and he or she will be able to tell you the effects and you can make up your own mind. I don't think it is bad for all, but it is a risk and only an expert could examine your daughter and tell you what the risks are.

well doing anything repeatedly will change your body, but if the child wants to, let her live life.
