The main cause is the excess production of prolactin , particularly if both breasts are secreting milk. Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the pituitary gland which stimulates the production of milk in the breasts.
Certain drugs can cause galactorrhoea eg tranquillisers, the oral contraceptive pill, methadone.
Unilateral (one-sided) galactorrhoea and/or blood stained discharge could indicate local breast disease.
Other causes include pituitary disease, renal disease, an underactive thyroid gland and sarcoid.
You should see your doctor if you think you have galactorrhoea. Usually, no serious cause is found.

Well the exact same thing was happening to me when I was a senior in high school. My doctor said that a hormone called prolactin was too high which was causing my breasts to lactate and not be pregnant. Prolactin is produced in the pituatary gland and it is what causes us to ovulate. He put me on a medicine called bromocriptine and about 6weeks into the medicine I stopped lactating and my periods starting coming on time every month like clock work. I'm still taking the pill to this day. I think that is what is happening to you too, it is not uncommon for a woman to have this problem I had never heard of it until the doctor said I had it, but you will be surprised that many women have this problem, good news is it is treatable. I have to take the pill once a day until I get pregnant, while I'm pregnant I stop because your prolactin is sopossed to be high when you are pregnant and then after the baby I continue to take it once a day. Good luck and I hope I helped you!!

I would advise you to go and seek a blood test from your doctor. They need to measure the amount of a hormone called Prolactin (produced by the Pituitary Gland) to see if the levels are high. If there are even slightly higher than normal, they can cause the secretions you've described. I have a benign pituitary tumour called a Prolactinoma and this is one of the side effects.

I have personally had this problem since I was 15 years old, and it at times was embarassing and caused alot of difficulties with my body. I was later diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia that was caused by a prolactin secreting pituitary cyst, which I am being treated for. you may need to find a Endocrinologist in your area to help you with your problems a womens prolactin levels are usually normally between 2-5 and at pregnancy around 15, mine on the other hand where elevated at one time to 123mg/ml. request a test it I didn't have one till much later, I recommend it alot!!!!!!!!

my theory is maybe you have over stimulated your nipples during sex or while masturbating and naturally your brain might think you pregnant, i.e, milk in your breast. other reasons, im not sure but there is nothing to worry about as this can happen with quite a phew woman. if it still is happening to you in 1 month then you should consult your GP. he might advise you change your diet as that might be the case. anyway, take care.

Without getting yourself too wound up with an internet diagnosis, look at www.wrongdiagnosis.com/g/galactorrhea/intro.htm My friend had the same thing and the doctor told her (ie: was absolutely certain, that she had a tumor on her pituitary gland!) - you can imagine how upsetting that was especially when she went for tests and it wasn't that at all!! I would ask your doctor about it (it's all to do with the endocrine system and hormones etc) - but don't let them scare you with a quick diagnosis like they did to my friend. There could be lots of other reasons. Good luck.
