Did you realize that many couples who've been together for a long time, they die within a short time period from each other?
Is it because when one partner dies the other person doesn't want to live anymore and that their body just shuts down?

What's your view on this? Give detailed answers and not just a yes or no.

How come some of you are crying? I sense tears. Or maybe I'm just being empathetic.

When my aunt was in a morphine induced coma, my uncle (her husband of 64 years) was in the same hospital on different floors. He would sneak around the hospital looking for her in his hospital gown. Then during a routine procedure he developed an infection in his blood and passed rather suddenly.
The day of his funeral a few days later, my sister told my aunt(still in a coma) that he had passed and that we buried him earlier that day. Within one hour as my sister sat beside her, her expression seemed to change, the look of pain subsided and she left this world with a more contented look of relief if not almost a smile according to my sis.
She may not have died of a broken heart, but she chose not to live in a world without her soulmate.

I've seen what happens when people who have been together lose each other. I think it is the sadness of losing the person you've spent your whole life with that makes people just want to give up. I had a friend in school whose grandparents had been together for over 50 years. When her grandma died, her grandpa died like 7 or 8 months later. My boss's mother died in June of this year, his father died in May last year. All his mother talked about was how she couldn't wait to die so she could be with him again. They were together for 60 years. I feel sometimes like the sadness of losing my ex will kill me but I have kids that need me. We only had 9 years but I loved him so very much. He was the other half of me and now that he's gone I feel so totally lost. My heart is as broken as it can get but I know I will get through it for the sake of our kids. There are some who just can't deal with the sadness of losing someone they love.

I tottally believe in this, my grandparents have been married for over 55 years, my grandma past away last year and my grandpa's health has went so down hill since its not even funny. He is not even the same person hardley. It's not nice to think about but I know I dont have much longer with him. Also I had a very close ex once, and his grandfather died and right after his grandmother got alzheimers and she hardley ever drove her whole life and one day went out when no one was paying attention and drove her car only about 200 yards down the road and was hit and killed instantly it was really sad and horrific but almost kind of relieving i suppose, i mean i loved the woman dearly but she was so sad and she needed to be with her husband all I could do was sigh when i found out.

I can't imagine the overwhelming feeling of dying of a broken heart but i believe thats its possible that the body can become so distressed to the point where it starts to shut down.. Stress plays a major role and can also cause health related problems including heart attacks, depression which could in turn lead to death

I felt myself going neurotic because of a broken heart. I think a broken heart can definitely end you up in many ways not only death. You can change the path of your life. You can go pscycho. You can die if not kill yourself. You can just be so introvert and scared for a long time. A broken heart is the ultimate punishment.

I believe that it can happen because I still believe to this day that I broke my Dad's heart when I turned to drinking and running around after all the things he tried to teach me when I was growing up! He died at the age of 54 and I was 21 and I didn't want to listen to him anymore! I regret that now and always will!

Depression and grief are emotions that we are just learning about in greater detail.

The intensity of the loss can cause severe physiological and psychological changed whereas one partner does pass away.

Some may feel the void left by the passing can never be filled and the person never replaced, so they, in effect, stop living

When someone breaks your heart, you may start doing this:
not eating
drinking
take drugs
try to kill yourself.....and many other stuff, depending on one's character and liability. And of the above, you can die,so I can say YES, one can die from broken heart
