Good luck finding it, rumors have it that the shortfall of only 300,000 units to hit the whole USA is a major blow to anyone wanting one for christmas, plan on camping out for 3 days at the store of your choice.
unless you have the extra $$ and are one who may spend up to $3 grand for one on ebay, because there won't be another shipment till mid march.

I know your son probably thinks he can't live without a PS3, but since there will be a huge shortage of the units and the 600 dollar price tag, it becomes time consuming, an inconvenience, and costly to get your hands on one. I suggest waiting until the system comes out on November 17th and take your son to Best Buy or another store that will have kiosks where he can try it out. The truth is, we get a list of inventory of what games for it are comin to our store at launch, and theres only about one game that is exclusive and really worth playing for the system at this time. Don't let people fool you about Blu Ray. Its for DVDs; not a top priority when paying 600 for video games. Also, you will also need to buy an HD tv if you don't already have one, or the whole point of the PS3 will be lost. Thats part of the reason its so expensive is because of the High Definition capabilities. Without them, the graphics will still look good, but not nearly as amazing as you would think for 600. Let him see if 600 plus 60 to 70 dollar games that he can play on other cheaper systems is still worth it to him when he tries it out at the store. I'd suggest another system for him, but I kno how the kids are and if they want something they want something so I won't go throwing out names of other new systems that seem like a better choice. You can email me if youd like to know more though. And, good luck on whatever you choose.

I don't think you can justify the cost. You should only buy if its in your budget (all bills are paid, you have running water, electricity, etc...).
Maybye you could justify it if you bought it for the entire family. FYI: the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray DVD player so you can watch HD movies as well.
The is also pleasure/entertainment item, not a neccessity....... How can you justify buying a Ferrari when all you need is a vehicle that can get you to/from work?
Some people may wait until the price comes down in a few months, and some people will camp outside the store for 2 weeks and pay anything to get their hands on it.
The release date for the system is scheduled on November 17th.
Good Luck!!!

Availability is tight. The only way you will get one is to wait in line for hours on the release date and hope for the best.
You can use the fact that it can double as a blu-ray player to justify the cost or the fact that (because he's a great kid) he is worth it.

I'm still up in the air but will probably buy it for Christmas... I have three sons. The eldest has a PS2 and wants a PS3, the middle son has an XBOX and wants an XBOX 360, and my youngest has a GameCube and wants the new Wii....
So, it looks to be an expensive Holiday season coming up for me....

Well think of it this way, a really good gaming computer will run you in the neighborhodd of $1500-$2000. Plus, you get a Blu-Ray player built in. Stand alone Blu-Ray players will run about $1000. So when you look at it that way, you are getting one hell of a bargain. As far as availability, I'll put it this way, as soon as you finish reading this, drive to Best Buy and get in line.
