I think that I value them both equally, but in different ways.
A true friendship will last (hopefully a lifetime), while relationships come and go. You get out of each what you put into it.
If you can't be yourself all the time, some thing's wrong, both a friendship and a relationship should know, accept and love you for who you are all the time. You might tend to show different aspects of your personality to different people, but it should all be you anyway.
Yes, two people of the opposite sex can have a very strong friendship...One of my best friends is a man, he's like a brother to me, don't know what I'd do without him sometimes because he makes a great sounding board for the male point of view, which sometimes comes in handy.

I don't know which would last longer, they say friends come and friends go, but if it's a strong one I'd probably say that friendship would last longer.

1. No, my relationship with my wife is more important to me than any friendship with another person.

2. 100%

3. My relationship with my wife, she is my best friend as well as my lover. The difference for me is my relationship is intense, my friendships more light hearted, not to say my relationship doesn't have many light hearted moments.

4. Friendships and relationships can be equally long lasting. Both require time and attention to maintain and grow.

5. To be yourself you have to trust the other person with all you say or do. So in my relationship, in my marriage, I can be me 100%. As for my friendships, there are certain details and facts that I will not discuss.

6. I have a dear female friend that I have known for three decades, we were lovers once, since then we have both found love, had children, and remain good friends. My wife has met her and since then understands that I do love her, but not in a romantic way. She is more like a sister in many ways.

Friendships are relationships.
Equal.
Same.
ALWAYS be yourself.ALWAYS!
NO you cannot be just friends with the opposite sex...because there is no one that doesn't get the yearning to sleep with that person at some point in the relationship. If they do it is NEVER the same.
