Problem is, I got rid of the tower as I moved from the US to Europe (did not think about copying that reference) and Microsoft will not release a number or an info to unblock it without the Windows number on the side of the Tower. When I insert the hard drive in the new computer it sends me a message asking to put a long number in the empty spaces and I don't have that number (yes, the one on the tower !!!) I really have a lot of important info on that hard drive and I need them. Does anybody know what to do without having that number. Your help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Okay the easiest way will be to purchase an external portable USB hard drive case. Install you old hard drive into the case. With your PC already powered on plug the external hard drive into the USB port via a USB cable. Then it will install it as a mass storage device. Once it is installed go to MY COMPUTER, look for the external hard drive and double click on it. This will open up the folders and files on the hard drive and bypass the windows operating system on it. You can then find any or all the informatioon on the old hard drive and copy the files/folders into a folder on the new PC documents.

I had a issue with a hard drive that had Windows XP on it that had crashed, I put it into an external hard drive case as described above and I was able to go in and get all the files I needed except one that was corrupted when the hard drive operating system failed. Hope this helps.

If the new computer has a OS on it already then you have the jumper setting on the HDD wrong somewhere the new computer is trying to boot from the hdd you installed from the other computer. You need to configure the one your putting in as the SLAVE drive then you should be able to retreive all info from the old drive. I have installed a drive from one computer to the next and I called Microsoft and told them my Product code and then gave me a new installation ID code (thats what you need) . If you dont have the # its pretty much useless using that hdd as your main drive with the old OS on it. If you install a new HDD and buy a OS and install it you can put your old HDD as the slave drive and look @ everything on it and transfer the files you want to your new HDD and then format the old hdd for a storage drive...Thanks

hey that's strange how can windows block a hard disk ?
anyway if you get this message ignore as long as your PC is able to show that it has read the old Ardisj ...
this is what u have to do ...
go on line get this software ...easy recovery
install and use easy recovery from http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoveryprofessional/ to get your data from it ..windows will not block an access initiated by a program ...then save your data in the new hard disk ..
once you have done this use partition magic to format your old hard disk ...then forget about the windows problem they will never bother you again

Don't worry!
You search for hard disk recovery(recover it all is a good software to start with) and then download the software(obviously demo one)
Then go to crackfind.com and search for the software you downoaded . then download the crack and crack the softare afterr installing it.
Then you can recover the data from the disk.
It will take some hours to recover the data .
You must keep the second drive as slave and have a primary drive on which you have some OS installed.
Also keep the recovered files on the primary drive and not on the slave as it will get overwritten this way.

you can put another disk in the computer, install windows and get it working.
add this hard drive as a secondary drive (slave) and see all the data on it.
but the windows on it won't run without being reactivated.
