Yes they can!! Beware of direct debit. This very thing happened to me in September and I bounced checks all over the country. My direct debit was, what I thought, supposed to come out of my account on the 17th. The bill it was paying was for the 20th. The bank took it out on the 11th saying that the 17th was the bill due date at they have to take it out 5-7 days prior to the bill being due. It took hours on the phone but I finally got the money put back in my account and an apology letter. I use my paycheck on the 15 to cover the bill so now I have moved the payment debit date to the 20th.

This will depend on the credit agreement. Some state that in the event of a weekend or bank holiday, monies may be taken in advance. Others state that the monies will be taken on the first working day after the break. You'll have to check I'm afraid.

Yes they can take it out today. I think that the agreement is that the money will be paid out under the terms of the DD 'on or about' the agreed date.

It'll go out on Monday, they can't take a DD before the date due, only on or after that date.

With most banks/building societies it will come out the next working day AFTER it was due. So Monday.

If the company you are paying has your bank account details, they will most likely process it over the weekend. If you are making a net banking transaction, it will be processed the first business day.

The contract will state if they can take out the money on the business day before, if the collection date falls on the weekend

Maybe, they can take it out today.
