it is a custom ,a social or religious commitment ,and it is not nessecary
if people live together and have kids
nothing changes ,they are married as far as the law is concerned anyway
some times mairage destroys a relation ship .a friend who was 84 lived with his girl friend for 40 years ,she bugged him all his life to get married ,but he refused ,and they never parted
some people live together for several years ,then decide to get married and break up soon after

smiles...what a trap question:) Marriage is the Union of two people with a Marriage contract. Marriage is a very Beautiful union between a Man and a woman. Children can be born out of this union and then gran children. The USA has over a 50 percent divorce rate...most of the divorced people re-marry.

I would say that would depend on how u look at it -
For many a persons & cultures , it's a amalgamation of 2 lives & their families... where each person cares for the other throughout their lives.
For some, it's just a relationship to last for a few months / years & then they r back to their normal 'Single' dom...

a beautiful concept....
just a difficult one... statistically children born to parents in a happy marrage do much better in life then those who are not... it is nice to grow up knowing your back ground to have a foundation in life.... you marry teach your children morals and something to belive in they marry ect ect on and on then you have tradition you have history you have a solid foundation for generations ... it is a beautiful thing... unfortunatly at least in the u.s these things are hard to find and it is more then a little sad ... it is destructive
