Heaven's got nothing to do with it. I do the best I can because that helps me do better next time, and because of the satisfaction I get from the work itself. I believe I'm a "good enough" human being because (a) I've lived enough to be compassionate - with others and therefor myself (b) but that doesn't stop me opposing what I feel will damage the Earth we share and all we share it with (c) I listen to others carefully because that tells me where they are, so I can see if I can help (but it doesn't mean I have to accept their view of either me or the world) (d) I engage with those I love and my wider community and do what I can to make life more satisfying for both (e) I am prepared to seem foolish if I learn from it and it makes me wiser (f) I avoid merely reacting to things, but to respond appropriately without alarm prejudgement or defensiveness (g) I am honest, in every way, for better or worse (and it's always for better in my experience). And I am always cheerful about my problems like cancer etc - never putting my load on others' shoulders if I can avoid it. Out of all this I seem to be loved and valued in ways that always surprise me by most who know me (except, perhaps, those I oppose in the wider interest as I see it). So imperfect, sure, but good enough. I am my own judge, responsible for myself - and don't need a god or any other fancy to fill me with awe, wonder and joy at the beauty of life and the universe.

Doing good things does not get one into heaven. Some religions teach this. Christianity is often blamed for teaching this, when in fact, the Bible says the complete oposite.
Regardless of one's belief on heaven, I think everyone could agree that the world would suck (moreso than it currently does) if everyone stopped doing good. That alone is a reason to do good or continue doing good.

i think a good guide for you would be kohlberg's stages of morality...search that in the net
i wouldn't say that i am a good human being...or why i try to be IF i am.....if there wasn't a heaven (although i believe there is) i would still try do good things and not stay neutral...i guess there is no more lonelier life to live than one that has nothing to live or die for.
another thing, there is so much suffering in this world that the best thing to do to offset this negative energy would be to be good
because i'm a Christian, i'd tell you that i do good because i want to follow a great example: Jesus Christ.

I am an atheist, so no the idea of going to heaven is not my motive.
I get a buzz out of making others happy, seeing them smile or making them giggle. I find emotions are very contagious, and therefore I don't wish to feel down, depressed or miserable by making someone else feel that way.
Hope you have a fantastic day!!

I do good stuff because it's the right thing to do. Doing the right stuff to gain entrance to heaven is like waiting for payday.. so motives for being good would have to be considered.

Because I want to be treated the same way I treat everyone ...what goes around comes around .. if I run into someone who's not so nice well I just finish up what I need to do and wish them a nice day some people just need a smile to change their day others love to be grumpy ..i figure if I help someone then just maybe if I need help someone will help me ..I don't count on being helped and I am self sufficient but I never know when the day will come and I do need a hand at something

Because it feels good to do good.
Whenever not compelled by any selfish reason, all that we do is good.
But for the compulsion to protect our selfish interest, we are pure, good and noble beings like all else in this world!! Heaven or no heaven!!!

It's who I am. Being kind and helpful is part of my personallity. I don't expect payment nor gratitude. All I expect is for people I help out to do their part and try to make the best of what they have.
Being a good and helpful person can't grant you access to Heaven.

If often do things to please the people around me and toensure that people only speak god about me .
I am not worried about heaven right now it's just the people on earth that I want to see me for a good person
I love it when people speak of me and say only good things
If I don;t make it to heaven then I got my props right now

I treat people as I would like them to treat me.
It's called being a decent human being, nothing to do with the myth of heaven/hell
