Yes there is something wrong with african people, but it is not their fault as individuals it is a result of living in a difficult continent and not being properly helped by their country or the world at large.
Africa is very big and poor and is susceptible to disease and natural disasters such as drought leading to famine. Corruption; poor infrastructure: transport, education, medicine and agricultural practices; civil wars, a tribal mentality and bad government slows development and often only make these matters worse.
In particular Aids today is killing a whole generation:
Into 2005, UNAIDS estimates suggests that the situation does not look much better. In Sub-Saharan Africa, there were
25.8 million (out of 40 million worldwide) living with HIV
3.2 million (out of 4.9 million worldwide) new HIV infections
2.4 million (out of 3.1 million worlwide) AIDS deaths

Parts of Africa are hard area to live in because of poverty, water shortage, increase in AIDS. But not all parts of Africa are like that. It is important to remember that just because we have been to one part of Africa it doesnt make the whole continent the same way. For example you cant compare the city of New York to the city of Raleigh and say that all cities are the same, they arent.
No there is nothing wrong with the African people. But there are some preconceived notions that some Americans may have regarding them.
Some Americans feel like Afriicans dont treat women fairly. They also have the preconceived notion to think that they are conartists out to scam people and get their money, based on what is in the news. But these are not true notions, they are preconceived prejudice notions that most biggotts and people who are uneducated believe.

Nothing. Their leadership, how ever, has very little to be desired. For the most part, their countries are desert (something that our geography classes in the USA rarely mention), yet they have water resources that their leaders refuse to develop. Instead, they grab all the money they can and use it for personal use. There are massive natural resources that could make many African countries a major world power, but because they do not demand that their leaders are held accountable, they fight each other in bloody clashes.
