when i called i was only told there was a 61.00 marriage licence fee never was told the judge would charge. this is in the state of Georgia

Congratulations on your marriage. I do believe this is legal. But you need to check with the county recorders office. Members of the clergy also charge for this service.

Who did you think pays the magistrate? In a traditional marriage ceremony...the minister who performs the ceremony is paid for his/her time and services...as well as the couple must get a license and pay for that. Everyone has to earn a living. Congratulations on your marriage..I wish you both many years of happiness. If the magistrates fee is the worst problem you ever face...then you will be blessed

Congratulations on your marriage, i wish you many years of happiness. I dont know about Georgia but my husband and i were married by a judge also here in Ohio and they are not allowed to charge anything. I would check into it. Good luck.

I got married by a judge in Arizona and he charged me $50 but when I made the appointment with him he told me about his charge. Most judges charge couples a cermony fee.

Why would you expect the Judge to do it for free? If you were the Judge would you do it for nothing?

it is customary for the officiator at a wedding to be paid. also, usually, you end up paying divorce lawyer a lot more. god luck.

yes....getting a marriage license has nothing to do with who performs the ceremony....
