Helsingfors is the original name of the modern city of Helsinki, and is still the official Swedish name for the city. However, the Finnish name, Helsinki (pronounced with the stress on the first syllable: ['helsiŋki]), has been dominant in other languages for decades. The Swedish name Helsingfors comes from the name of the surrounding parish, Helsinge (source for Finnish Helsinki) and the rapids (in Swedish: fors), which flowed through the original town. The name of Helsinge is thought to come, according to folklore, from the Swedish dwellers who came from the Swedish province of Hälsingland. The city is also called Stadi in the local slang, and Hesa by people who don't live in Helsinki. In some subculture communities, especially among heavy metal fans, the name has recently been humorously misspelled "Hell-sinki". Helsset is the North Sami name of Helsinki.

No, the name didn't change - the city changed. City of Turku (or Åbo in Swedish) used to be capitol of Finland until 1812. It hosts one of the largest Swedish populations in Finland and I think it's the third largest city and also the oldest city in Finland. Because of "taken title" there is still kind of rivalry between Helsinki and Turku.

All the things about Helsingfors, I think it's true.
Otherwise, the former capital before it was Helsinki (in the 1810s or 1820s) was Turku, which is still a big city.

Yeah, that's true what has been said earlier (the capital changed, it was Turku before), except that Turku is the fifth largest city in Finland nowadays.

It's pretty easy to do DURING the divorce. Just write it into the divorce decree that you are assuming you former name. Of course, then you have to go through the social security administration..they get a copy..your employer's HR department..they get a copy of the new SS card..Revenue office for new drivers license..etc. It's an avalanche..
