'the best way would be to use 3d party backup software. i'd prefer to use true image for such kind of tasks. you can make scheduled backups, backup the whole drive, e-mails, music&video files, fotos and etc.
you can get version 7 for free on there site:
http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7
and then if you want you can easily upgrade it to version 10, and save about 20 $

How lazy is that this? you choose a application which will undoubtibly decelerate your computing device so which you would be able to avert clicking your mouse on one message each and every time you put in your device to back up? I doubt there is one yet i individually dont see the situation, all you need to do is put in the device and click backup, or you may choose the specific data you will possibly prefer to apply. Sorry I havent helped you yet you additionally can ask Google your questions

You can execute scheduled backup using Acronis True Image. I can highly recommend you this excellent software. Along with scheduled backup ATI has many very useful features. It doesn't just mirror your system it can also set the most suitable size of an image.

Windows XP has its own backup utility. The utility is installed by default in Windows XP Pro. If you're a Windows XP Home user, you'll need to install it.
But for other OS i think you need to buy a third party software.

although i HATE nortons anti virus, i must admit that their norton ghost program is very good and should be good for what you want. you can have it back up your stuff automatically as defined by you or it can do it itself. i personally prefer to back up manually as i know for sure that it has worked in case there is a glitch with the backup program you are using(just paranoid i guess!!)
