Problem with those people is they have no value for money (that you earned). Assuming the above don't work (or it costs more to sue them etc. then you'd get in compo) get something they own (and value) and destroy it in front of them. When they discover that losing valuable stuff ain't cool, they will stop damaging other peoples property. Say, "practical joke or not, it ain't funny is it?"

Different things you can do, but one that might make things up for you a bit is find out the cost of repairs, then borrow something of equal value, you don't want to steal he should loan it to you then keep it indefinitely or until it loses its value for example borrow a brand new shirt till it goes out of style.

Go and have him charged for damage to property. What he did was stupid and immature, and you are more than entitled to feel annoyed with him. Go girl!
