It can be any number of stomp boxes that amplify or manipulate the signal from the pick ups of a guitar. Like a wah petal, phazer, pitch shifter or a gain boost and or noise reducer. Mostly people use like metal distortion boxes to get a better crunch to their sound.

Usually the term "floor processor" is referring to a rack or console unit that has been redesigned as a unit to sit on the floor and be manipulated by the feet - practically always refers to a multi effect unit. It's just a marketing term, not a technical one.
