First and foremost, Democracy is not an american invention. Even Plato was not especially fond of democracy when since his point of view it uses rhetoric and persuasion to govern. Moreover I would say most of current democratic countries use sofisms as the main form to persuade their citizens. Sometimes its obvious, just like in this case in which its also easily seen one of the main shortcomings of democracy. Invade a country with a false excuse, remain there, "say you are doing something good because you are helping them turning into a democracy" --> OMG this is a brain fart, a nonsense how in the hell do you pretend to make someone remain being democrat democratically. You can take that to many other points and still applicable. Democracy is acceptable if the population is not a bunch of idiots otherwise it turns into a disaster as it is the case. Btw there r idiots in both sides otherwise it would have been called Invasion of Iraq, with that in mind it might have even been a succes

True democracy is a grand concept, but unworkable in reality. The will of all cannot be appeased because you will never have complete agreement. Therefore we use representative democracy which accounts for the shortcomings of true democracy by catering to the will of the majority. No one is forcing anyone to believe a particular way. We may be manipulated by rhetoric, but you cannot be manipulated if you learn the facts. If you do not learn the facts then by extension you must be happy with the system. Either way people in free societies are not being suppressed, but they are in other forms of government in the world. As to Iraq we do not have to force the country to accept democracy. What we have to do is give them the opportunity to decide for themselves. In the end democracy may not take there, but the people deserve at least the chance at governing themselves. Lastly, it is apparent you are not a fan of democracy so please propose alternatives. Democracy may not be perfect, but from my vantage point it beats all alternatives hands down.

Simple answer. I would rather live where majority rules than where there is one ruling power controlling the majority. In the latter all decisions are made by a few without regard to the masses. In Majority rule, the ruing party has to be concerned with the thoughts and concerns of the people or they will find themselves out of power
